I think had he followed the momentum from the Hesitant Alien tour and went straight into the Young Animal solo record (instead of touring Russia and ditching the second album to make Young Animal the comics line), he could have really tapped into something special. Seeing it live in 2015 was a brilliant night out, but it's true now that the album on its own doesn't feel as impactful as it did at the time, at least for me personally. While MCR was big, following it up with a shoe gaze/fuzz/britpop album was a risk, but considering he toured it around the world and it gained the following it did, I believe it paid off. I feel like its reception also exceeded expectations. The way its mixed completely adds to the character and makes it stand on it's own as a unique piece of the MCR(adjacent) discography. While I'm not as big a fan of the album now, at the time it absolutely blew me away.
